Tips on How to Stay Healthy During Coronavirus Outbreak

Have you heard? There's a virus outbreak.

(And I'm running a free 7-day Juice & Smoothie Challenge starting March, 21st - more info at the end of the post!)

Everyone's been talking about it. Many are panicking. For some reason people are buying up all the toilet paper they can get their hands on.

What does toilet paper have to do with it?

There are things you can do for yourself and your family besides panicking and freaking out. Stocking up on toilet paper and cans of tuna fish isn't the answer.

If you don't know, the evidence is pointing to this coronavirus coming from bats that were for sale in a wet market in China. Wet markets are where many different species of animals are housed in filthy conditions. Animals that humans should absolutely not be consuming.

It's not a question of if a virus outbreak will happen, more like a question of when. A wet market in China was also ground zero for the SARS outbreak back in 2003.

Thankfully one of the benefits of the coronavirus has been international outrage and a call to ban wet markets.

Until that day comes, there are a few things you can do to stay safe.

Primarily the people who are the most at risk are those with compromised immune systems due to age and other health conditions.

Here are a few things you can do for your health:

1) Wash your hands. Germs get a chance to take flight if you don't get in the habit of washing your hands. Wash your hands several times a day with soap and water. Especially if you're touching door knobs, hand rails, or any places that other people are also touching.

2) Get some sleep! Your body rebuilds tissue, your brain takes out the "trash" from the day, hormones get balanced... All of this happens during sleep. Sleep is one of the key ways to reduce stress in your body. But here is the key thing to remember: If you're not getting enough sleep your body actually perceives it as a form of stress. This causes a stress response in your body and can cause your hunger hormones to get out of whack. Focus on getting 7-10 hours of sleep a night. Figure out how much sleep helps you feel rested on waking.

3) Make gut health a priority. Many people have a diet that is incredibly hard on their gut. Sugar, processed foods, fried foods, GMO foods, red meat, eggs, alcohol, gluten, and dairy are all NOT ideal for great gut health. Along with that the chemicals, preservatives and dyes found in many processed foods are especially hard on gut health. A round of antibiotics can actually destroy the good bacteria in your gut. The reason gut health is so important is because most of your immune system, 65-70%, lives in your gut. The better your gut health, the more protected you are from foreign invaders. Gut health helps boost your immune system. This is key for staying healthy.

Make foods that are great for gut health a part of your diet. Broccoli, garlic, asparagus are some of the foods that are helpful. Fermented foods also nourish the good bacteria in your gut. Make brown rice, let it cool and then eat it. When you eat cooled brown rice it becomes a resistant starch in your gut, feeding the good bacteria.

When it comes to gut health, it's also important to detoxify your gut. Unfortunately there are so many chemicals in the food system. Over time those chemicals affect your health. Many autoimmune conditions are a result of toxic buildup in the gut, especially from glyphosate. I recommend using Biome Medic to pull the toxins out of your gut, repair your gut lining, and help support the good bacteria in your gut. There's a special promo code for Biome Medic in my Supplements Shop.

4) Reduce your stress levels. Do your best to reduce your stress levels. Meditation, deep breathing and yoga are all great for stress relief. Being in a state of stress down regulates many genes in your body. It also suppresses your immune system. Get into a daily routine that helps you reduce your stress levels. My personal favourite is meditation, which I do daily first thing in the morning.

5) Exercise! Moving your body is a great way to reduce stress, get your circulatory system going and boost brain health. Movement is beneficial for all the systems in your body. Getting outside in nature for a walk or run is great for your gut microbiome. The microbes in the outside world help rebalance your gut microbiome. I call this a win/win!

Above all stay calm. If you want to go a whole body reset that includes a liver and kidney cleanse, a gut reset and a parasite cleanse I highly recommend the 30-day Ultimate Lifestyle Transformation. It's great for rebooting your health and creating better health habits for the long term.
