How Can a Routine Help You?

Brian Tracy says, “Good habits are hard to form but easy to live with. Bad habits are easy to form but hard to live with.”

It can be very tempting to go into panic mode. It's completely understandable. The daily news isn't helping and nor is social media. We're all facing something we've never faced in our lifetimes.

There are ways to help yourself get through the days with a little more ease. There's nothing wrong with wanting to feel a little bit better, despite what's going on right now.

Creating a daily routine for yourself will do wonders for your mood and overall wellbeing. Some of the downsides to no routine are poor sleep, poor nutrition choices, and increased stress levels.

Here are some of the benefits of a routine-

Lowered stress levels that improve mental health. A lack of healthy stress management techniques can put you at greater risk for heart disease and negatively impact your overall health.

Better sleep will help your body recover from the stresses of the day. Your daily routine influences your quality of rest. Your sleep schedule and bedtime habits affect your mental sharpness, performance, emotional well-being and energy level. It’s best if you can maintain a consistent time for waking and going to bed.

Better health is a result of just a little extra planning. Set the alarm a little earlier and you’ll have time to exercise and eat breakfast.  A healthy breakfast will get you energized. Whether you like to just go for a run or go to the gym for a bigger workout, it’s important make time for exercise.

Having a consistent morning and evening routine will give some structure to your day. Decide what you want to commit to. Maybe it's a meditation practice followed by some movement. Or a morning yoga practice or going for a walk. Whatever it is you decide to do, commit to it. Get up early enough that you can actually do it daily.

Follow your routine for at least 30 days and see how it changes your mood and overall wellbeing. Over time you can add to it and change it. My personal morning routine includes meditation, yoga and a HIIT workout.

This is a routine I created over a period of five years. I started with meditation and over time I added yoga. My final addition is my a HIIT workout. It takes time to create a routine so be patient. Start with one simple thing you can stick to.

You can also add a short evening routine to close off your day. The time before bed is a perfect time to reflect on the day. It's the perfect time to do a gratitude journal or some other self reflection exercise. Like your morning routine commit to your evening routine for 30 days.

With consistency you'll start to feel different physically as well as emotionally. Send me an email and let me know how it goes!
