2 Tips To Help You Stay On Track In 2020

Did you know that most people give up on their new year resolutions by mid-January? Research shows that 88% of people don’t accomplish what they set out to accomplish.

In this blog I’m going to share some very simple ways to keep yourself on track whether you have fitness goals, nutrition goals or some other goal that you really want to accomplish in 2020.

Let me start off by saying congrats!

It’s great that you want to create positive change in your life. That’s admirable and needs to be celebrated. Stand up (if you’re sitting) and give yourself a big old pat on the back. Literally stand up and do it. If your cat, or dog, or partner looks at you funny it’s okay!

I have two great tips for staying on track with your intentions for 2020.

The first way to do is to make the new habit the obvious choice.

For example if your goal is to eat healthier food, stock your fridge with only healthy whole foods. Take all the junk food out of your house so it’s not there to tempt you when you have a bad day.

Let’s face it, we all have bad days. When we’re feeling low we don’t make the best choices. Rather than leave sugary snacks or potato chips kicking around your cupboards, get rid of the temptation.

If you want to start doing morning workouts lay your workout clothes out the night before. That way you’re not fumbling around in the morning.

Whatever new habit you want to adopt into your daily routine make it as easy as possible to do it.

When I first wanted to start meditating in the morning I used to leave my meditation cushion right on the floor on my side of the bed. I did that until I got into a regular meditation practice. It worked like a charm! Now, over thirteen years later, I still meditate every single morning.

My second no-fail tip for staying on track is to find a way to reward yourself.

Maybe there’s something you’ve been wanting to treat yourself to... A massage, or a day at the spa, or maybe a book that you’ve been dying to read. Use that as your motivation and reward yourself when you accomplish your goal.

Grown ups are really big kids at heart. Have you ever seen how kids light up when they get rewarded for some achievement? Do the same for yourself!

Start using these two tips to keep your promise(s) to yourself. Honour the part of you that set those resolutions and you will manifest a happier and healthier life.
