Did you start this year buzzing with excitement?

Then by mid January your enthusiasm had fizzled to nothing? Probably doesn't help that January always feels like a year. Now what?

With eleven months left in the year is that it? Are you packing it in?

Did you know that all of the most successful people in sports, entertainment and business work with coaches? They have coaches for nutrition, fitness, mindset. Some even have coaches for sleep!

What does that mean? It means that if you're trying to figure things out on your own it's going to take longer to get results. You also have no guarantee that you'll every get to your goals. You may also spend a lot of time spinning your wheels.

Sadly most people invest more in their cars than in themselves. You want to know something? Investing in yourself will always pay off unlike investing in a car where it's always a losing game. Cars are depreciating assets.

Why do extremely successful people use coaches?

Most humans suck at being accountable to themselves. It's just not how we're wired.

Coaches help curate information. Think about it. A fitness coach knows how the human body works and how to modify in case of injury. You could try and learn it yourself but why spend the hours when you could go to one person to help you move better.

What to look for in a coach:

1) Someone who has credentials and is accredited in what you're looking for. Many people call themselves coaches and don't actually have any valid credentials. Ask questions about their qualifications before you work with them.

2) Look for someone who's committed on ongoing training. That's an asset to you because you're getting the best knowledge possible. A coach who has their own coach is also really great to look for. Avoid anyone who isn't actively looking to improve on their skillset as a coach and a human. They will only get you so far.

3) Make sure you can have some kind of consultation prior to beginning any paid coaching sessions. You want to get a feel for the coach's style and make sure that you're a good fit in terms of personality.

4) After you consult you should feel like the coach understands what you're going through and also has the ability to guide you. Being listened to and understood is key.

5) A good coach will push you outside of your comfort zone. But he/she will do it in a way that's suited to you. All growth happens outside of your comfort zone, keep that in mind as you embark on bettering yourself.
